My new paradise after leaving Hurricane alley

I recently moved here from Destin, Florida which was a tourist beach community. I lived there for 35 years when the little fishing village turned into a tourist mecca and traffic expanded from a little two lane road to a six land highway which was the only way in and out of town. Every year there are predictions on the Hurricane season which I don't miss. My homeowners insurance due to hurricanes each year went from $1,200 a year to $3,700 and summer traffic was bumper to bumper gridlock. I moved to Henderson, NV which was like a night and day difference. Found a modest home in the mid 300's here with a pool and RV parking. No humidity, no gridlock, and my home insurance is only $600 a year! WOW was I surprised about that. If I want entertainment, it's a 20 minute drive down to the Vegas strip for pro sports, concerts and most anything else I want. My neighborhood is in a place called Palm Canyon on the southside of Henderson near Black Mountain. I have all the conveniences within a two mile drive or walk as this place is bike and walk friendly with paths and sidewalks which are maintained by the city. At night, you can hear a pin drop as my neighborhood is so quiet at night. Most of my neighbors are either retired or professional people and it is quite safe at any time of day or night. If I need to be on the water, Lake Mead and the Colorado River and only a short drive away. I retired after serving over 35 years in law enforcement in Florida and decided to move as this is one of the states with no income tax. The people here are very friendly and I have found a new hometown for rest of my life. I don't regret my move here with the only exception being I left several friends behind in Florida. I'm making several new ones though and look forward to getting used to my new surroundings.
